Ten convicted of cyber-bullying targeting Brigitte Macron

A court in Paris has ruled against ten people for perpetrating the digital intimidation of Brigitte Macron, the spouse of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
The those on trial faced accusations of disseminating untruths regarding her sex and sexuality, in addition to publishing defamatory statements about the couple's age disparity of 24 years.
The court handed down conditional custodial sentences of a maximum of eight months to the defendants. The detailed judgment has yet to be released.
A persistent conspiracy theory alleging that Brigitte Macron is a trans woman has been in circulation since her husband's rise to the presidency in 2017.
This recent ruling in France coincides with the Macrons engaging in a libel case in the US against right-wing influencer Candace Owens, who has also voiced comparable unfounded claims about the French president's wife's gender.
Their complaint states that Owens brushed aside all credible evidence that refuted her assertions opting to platforming known conspiracy theorists.
Owens has regularly repeated these assertions on her digital program and online platforms, and in March 2024 proclaimed that she would risk all her credibility on her belief that Mrs. Macron is in fact a man.
Brigitte Macron originally became acquainted with her current spouse when she worked as an educator at his high school.
The two tied the knot in 2007, when the then-29-year-old Emmanuel Macron was 29 and she was in her mid-50s.
